Lunches and Lunch Boxes

As a parent you may be wondering about lunch time. Our students sit as a class on an assigned table. Students are welcome to bring or purchase a hot lunch.

As a child I brought my lunch with the exception of maybe an occasional hamburger day. I find this amazing as a reflect back because my mom did this on a daily basis from the time I was in 1st grade through high school. I even went through a peanut butter and jelly only phase and the later no sandwich stage. This was of course prior to Lunchables being available fore easy purchase. All the while she adapted and left sweet notes in my lunch boxes through the years.

As a teacher I still bring my lunch and got very excited earlier today when I got a new lunch box  for this coming school year. It made me think about my first lunchbox as a 1st grader at Shady Crest Elementary. We had half day Kindergarten back then, so I was home for lunch. The lunchbox I had was red and plastic with a snoopy decal on the front. I really wanted a metal lunchbox, but that was not an option because my mom did not want it to rust from being washed daily. The cool thing about the metal lunch box (which I never got by the way) back then were the thermos style and the fact that the front lid could just flop down.

Like many of you I will be packing my child's lunch with love and hope he eats what I pack instead of only talking. I try packing items he can open on his own, but I'm also aware we have lunch monitors who
will help to open packages with a simple raise of the hand. Like my mom did I will make sure a cookie is there to greet him as well as a sweet note reminds him how much we love him.

In case you are wondering our lunch time is 10:50-11:20. Families are welcome to come have lunch with their child by first stopping by the front office with a valid ID and then wear the issued visitor sticker. You then need to sit at the visitors table and your child may not bring a friend as this makes hurt feelings by those not chosen.
