Working with Letter: L l

4th: We changed our calendar to reflect our new month of September. We worked with the Letter l. Brainstormed items that are the color red and sang the R-E-D song. We began Daily 5 and read for 3 minutes in "Read to Self" choice. Students got to choose their own location to "Read to Self" and got to try out some of the Word Work Stations that will open up soon. Ms. Coleman came and read us a book about being good listeners.

5th: Happy Birthday Tanner! We went to the library and learned about shelf markers. We read Pete the Cat, drew a red item and stretched our our sounds to spell the red item he stepped in. We talked about ways to make the Earth happy with actions that are good for the environment.

6th: We created a Pete the Cat character map. Orally we gave examples of thing Pete "has" or "is". Brainstormed yellow words and helped tell Mrs. Williams what sounds were in the words for her to write on the graphic organizer. Following directions and listening skills were used as we began to create a Pete the Cat. Students had to write their name of pieces and carefully cut Pete pieces.

7th:
Happy Birthday Fox! Our morning work was a huge surprise. We got to use Play-Doh. Of course it was kept on the table and only our hands were able to use it and not our face. We went in small groups to another room to have our school Intervention Team assess what we know as incoming kindergarten students. As a s class we brainstormed blue words, learned the blue song and reviewed the red and yellow song from earlier in the week. We continued to work with the Letter L and completed a phonics sheet that tried to trick us by having both uppercase and lowercase letters for us to find. Our Pete the Cats began to take shape as we had to follow oral directions as we glued the pieces. Over, Under, On Top, Behind were some of the words we needed to be listening for. Today we also completed a color sheet in which we had to actually read. Good thing we now know how to read the words Red and Blue because that's how we knew what to color!

10th: Book Orders have been extended to today.
Our School is Honoring Grandparents this morning

We are really reading the color words to complete our work.
The Days of the Week were put in order in a variety of ways this week such as our bodies and on paper.
All students got to use the Smart Slate to write the first letter of their name. The hand eye connection is very important and how I do our Morning Calendar. Speaking of our Morning Calendar the lesson I use was shared today at a training with Kinder and 1st grade teachers who all have SMART boards in their room.

Our class got to check out books from the library for the very first time which was so exciting. We get to keep them for one week! They are due next Wednesday!
