First Day of School August 27th.... Welcome to your first day of school at Carpenter Hill Elementary.
Just a reminder to parents that the Boo Hoo, Yea Ha is being sponsored by the PTA across from the library.
Wow the first day has come and gone. A variety of emotions can occur after the first day and this is normal. Some examples are pure excitement, exhaustion or even sadness that it is not like daycare. We watched a BrainPOP Jr video about kindergarten today and even had a question/answer session before and after the video.
Top two questions of the day:
When is nap? We did have a small down time while watching the BrainPOP Jr. video with lights off. I also play soothing music when students were working on 1st day activities.
When can we play with toys? We use tools like blocks and play-doh for learning I explain just like families use tools to make dinner or fix things around the house.
All students did a great job adjusting to families leaving them in the classroom. Even those who cried were quickly making friends.
Tomorrow students will find their name tags just like today on their name tag. They need to put backpacks into their cubbies and lunch boxes if they have on the lunchbox ledge. If you are sending money for lunch make sure it is in an envelope with their name.

28th:
I'm not sure if you heard but our class pet Miss Rose is lost! We looked in the nurses office today because we found a clue with a band-aid, but she did not make it back to class!
Today as a class we read Tacky the Penguin.

I love this book because it highlights uniqueness and illustrates a great line. We want a great penguin line not a tacky line. Another important part of our day was learning what The Job of a Student. Here is our revised web after brainstorming many ideas:

29th:

Miss Rose is still lost, but we found another clue of a heart and went to meet Ms. Coleman who gave her a hug after she shared her feelings. Maybe she will send us another clue tomorrow?

We practiced using glue and making small dots or a frame instead of big globs which can be difficult for small hands holding big bottles.

We learned about a crumpled heart, saying and meaning "I'm sorry". We also earned compliments on our walking in the hallway. Showed patience when a computer tech came to fix something and when a video buffered from the Internet. As a result we earned parts to our Mrs. Potato Head.

Just a reminder tomorrow night is the Kindergarten Kickoff Parent Meeting. I have .important kindergarten information to share with you, giving you a chance to ask questions, meet and learn from other kindergarten parents.

We will have a school wide Open House in a few weeks for your student to show off their work, classroom and school.

30th: Kindergarten Kickoff for Parents 6:30-7:30. I look forward to see parents and caregivers to share with you more about Kindergarten.
