Twitter Around the World
Our classroom is participating in a project called "Kindergarten Around the World". Our partner class is on Vancouver Island in Canada. You can follow our conversations on the Twitter Feed, but on this page I'd like to highlight aspects that made this collaboration so meaningful.
Once we found out our Partner class location we looked it up on Google Earth to see just how far away. Kindergarten students love maps so this was a hit. Their school is on an island and they must take a ferry. Students drew connections to this because many have taken short ferry rides, but not 45 minutes which is longer than our recess.
Soon after starting our correspondence our friends in Canada celebrated Thanksgiving in October. At this point I knew the learning connections would be numerous. My students quickly made the connection that this was in a different month, but still with turkey because of the art work they sent a picture of.
Amazing discussion about temperature happened today. Our partner class asked if we have inside recess and what fall is like in Texas. We gave gave a description with temperatures in F. They responded back that they use Celsius. We then used an interactive website to see how the two compare.
